I have never heard of that before. I am sure that so long as you are over 18 and receiving a regular income, you shouldn’t have a problem. Maybe they will ask you for a guarantor, but they can’t refuse you altogether!Citizens rights and all that….

You can rent a flat from the age of 16… most letting agents will ask for a bank reference or a character reference, but you don’t have to be 21 to rent a flat. Some letting agents don’t accept students or DSS, but many will. If you are working then you should be able to rent any flat you like. Make sure you pay your rent on time, so when it comes to moving you will always have a good reference from your last landlord.

E4K Whassup! You are entitled to rent a property from the age of 16 provided that you have a guarantor. This can be a Parent/Guardian or a responsible Homeowner (Not another Tenant). If you were to default on your rental agreement in any shape or form, they would then be fully responsible for the reimbursement of costs.
Many Landlords or Rental Agents will not normally offer rental accommodation to DHSS or Students as the risks are deemed to be too high from a damage limitation point of view. There are many Insurers however, who offer special terms to Landlords these days for student accommodation, so don’t feel you are on a lost cause if you are a student? Many Landlords rent ONLY to Students.
Pick a reputable Estate/Letting Agent as many Agents operate without any stringent guidelines or adherence to ‘fair play’ and once renting, ensure that you pay your rent on time every month and keep the place from getting ‘Trashed’ as this will enable you to build up good references for future rental accommodation!
Good luck and I hope this has helped you?

Where are you?I’m in England and I’ve been renting since I first turned 18! So unless you’re in a different country then I dunno where you heard that!
