Can we cancel a short term let within 7 days of signing?

short term renting flat

we rented a flat for my daughter in Scotland so she could be close to Uni last June. She shared with a flatmate and initially the contract was for 8 months then month on month and I was her guarantor. She now has a new flatmate and when I was on holiday last week she was asked to sign a new lease for the new joint tenant but this was for 6 months. the agents never informed me I would be guarantor now for a 6 month lease, Then, 5 days after signing, my daughter was accepted quite unexpectedly for another University 60 miles from the flat. She didn’t expect to get in but did. In addition, her new flatmate now tells us she can’t afford the rent anyway! so there are 2 issues. My daughter shouldn’t have signed the lease without speaking to me but was under pressure from the agent in order to get the new flatmate on the lease, they insisted she sign a new contract. But surely the agent should have told me in writing that the terms of the lease were changing from month on month to 6 months as guarantor? AND as it transpires, my daughter will be going to Uni miles away and her flatmate can’t afford half the rent anyway. The agent says tough. I have asked that they speak to the landlord and asked that we be released not only because the girls really didn’t know what they were signing, but also because soon after circumstances have changed unexpectedly for my daughter and her flatmate AND they have put me down as guarantor on a new 6 month contract when I had honestly believed that the new flatmate was being added to the existing lease, I have had contact with the office over the last couple of months and nothing was said about a new 6 month contract. Help? we need out of the contract for all reasons, what do we do? I can’t afford to pay 6 months rent for 2 properties
I have told them I will pay my daughters portion until the end September but her flatmate can’t or won’t pay. But shouldn’t they have told me as I have a financial interest, that the lease eas changing from month on month to a 6 month lease. Surely the gurantor has a right to say if they are happy with commiting themselves?
I didn’t sign anything. I did not agree to be guarantor other than month to month and my daughter was not told she could not get out of the lease

Is there a house or flat sharing or even room renting culture in Antwerp, Belgium?

short term renting flat

I’m considering going there for a few months but not for long and I don’t want to be tied to a long term contract or the expense of a short term let on an apartment. Is there a culture of sharing flats or houses or even renting just a room in or around Antwerp and if so what are the average Euro costs for this?

Why do I hate my gf so much but dont want to leave ?

short term renting flat

This is a question from my brother – Been seeing a woman 7yrs, separate flats until this year. Shes married and pursued me. We worked together for 3yrs, her as my boss. I have rented my flat out until now(short term 1,2 wks at a time). She still married and sees, talks to him regularly, stays at their flat 1 or 2 nights a month, not in same bed. They have bought 2 properties to rent out since i met her. Gets angry when i mention him as her husband. I don’t like her behaviour as shes angry, jealous, anxious, controlling, nasty selfish, thoughtless, money orientated, lazy, dirty, stupid, sly, manipulative and a few others. I get no thanks for doing anything. She has kept me away from family and friends for 4/5 yrs now and eroded my confidence to the point of working as a cleaner 5 nights a week by myself. I’m a graduate of accountancy but didn’t like the career. i have no friends other than her heavy drinking bar friends. I would like to leave, but she says she loves me and wants me to commit to her, but shes still married herself! They are not separated financially to any extent. She gets me to say i love her too and that i wont leave her. This makes me feel guilty and i stay. Scared to leave as i will be very isolated by myself and dont feel i could cope. Shes been some strange sort of help and support over the years, but maybe has caused some of my issues herself just by being in my life. Not sure where to go now, or how to get there.Any advice or viewpoint might help me to see things and move on.Thankyou.
I have passed all the answers to my brother when gf not about (as she rants at him about being in touch with me). he says thanks to all the contributors and it will all help him take the necessary steps when he can summon courage.

Leave of absence year after second year of university?

short term renting flat

Hey, this is gonna be a bit long, sorry! So basically I’m in my second year of a four-year course at uni in the UK. Lately I feel a bit lost and just wanted some advice before I go worrying the rents lol.

I find my course really boring most of the time and I’ve been letting my work slide and worse I’ve let my friends slide. I know that this is the right course for me and I don’t want to do anything else but I feel like I need a break and get a job and DO something you know?

My first year at uni was ok i guess, i was a bit disappointed about the kind of people in my flat but i did manage to make lots of friends eventually and used to go out a lot. The lectures weren’t that difficult and I kind of just coasted along work-wise. I left my revision to the last minute but I got good grades as it’s the kinda stuff I’m good at i.e. memorising tons of material in a short space of time and logical stuff. It was quite hard though as I didn’t really have much motivation to revise until the fear of failing kicked in.

When I started this year I started living with 2 good friends in a really nice flat. I joined a couple of societies and the gym and I was glad I could do a sober night at uni and keep on top of my work. I don’t know if its because I’m not seeing a lot of my friends I used to go out with or the extra work load but since November I just feel so uninterested. I don’t even want to go out anywhere anymore, I’m running out of excuses and I think my friends are running out of patience.

I didn’t do an essay that was really important, didn’t go to half my lectures, I even told my flatmates I was going home for the weekend instead spent three days in my room alone watching TV and drinking and sleeping (for 18 hours!). For the exams after Christmas I didn’t revise at all except for the first exam then I couldn’t really be bothered. Now I can’t even think how I’m gonna get through the next term let alone the next two years.

I’ve been toying with the idea of taking a leave of absence for a year, like a gap year. I know its something my parents would never go for but I just think I need to do something about this cos I don’t see how I’m magically gonna get my motivation back especially since the course just gets harder next year. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? How did you do it? And how did it affect you?

Thanks so much for just reading this. X

How much would renting a flat cost?

renting flat

My friend and I are thinking of renting a flat in Reading, and have found one for £400 a month, which includes all bills. But what other expences are there? and how much would council tax be? We have never rented a flat before, what other things should we know/be aware of? Thank you
